Short-term health insurance is a temporary solution for medical coverage that can expire after a pre-determined amount of time. It has several advantages, including affordability and convenience. Keep in mind that this type of temporary healthcare typically goes through an underwriter, which means you'll be asked a series of questions about your current and past health issues.

Short-term health insurance plans are not automatically renewed and you will need to submit a new application for each new coverage period.

Considering a short-term health insurance plan? Do your research first! Be sure to find out what the policy will and will not cover. Know what expenses you will have for copayments, deductibles, and coinsurance. Find out if the policy has an out-of-pocket maximum and if there are caps on total policy coverage. Verify that there are doctors in your area that are in-network. And remember, this is a temporary insurance plan. It is not designed to cover you for the long-term and you need to be prepared to find a new health plan when your short-term policy expires.
